About the organization:

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 22 is a DC-area labor union that has represented behind-the-scenes entertainment workers in the Washington, DC metro area since 1894. Local 22 also functions as a hiring hall that facilitates referrals of employee applicants to employers under contracts with the union. The Local 22 office is very small, consisting of 2-3 full-time employees and part-time executives. The Office Manager position reports to the Business Agent, but operates independently most days.

About the job:

The Office Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all office administrative activities. The development and maintenance of personnel records (digitally and in hard copy) is a significant part of the job. The Office Manager is the first point of contact at the office, answering phone calls on the main line and managing the front desk.

Additionally, the Office Manager is responsible for receiving and processing union referral fees. Attention to detail is critical.

Duties include:

  • Ordering supplies for the office
  • Sorting correspondence and handling deliveries
  • Processing and forwarding financial reports to benefits offices
  • Sending out union-wide announcements
  • Meeting coordination (including refreshments) for occasional events in the building
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Office Manager or Administrative Assistant
  • Experience working in a small office preferred
  • Detail-oriented and comfort with multitasking
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to create and develop organized filing systems
  • Willingness to learn new software systems
  • Additional administrative responsibilities as assigned
